CHRISTINA S.
FINDING BALANCE AND BOUNDARIES THROUGH AIKIDO
BACKGROUND
In 2016, Christina embarked on her journey with River of Ki Aikido. She wasn’t just looking for a physical practice; she wanted a spiritual guide and a supportive community where she could align her physical, emotional, and spiritual self.
“I had always wanted a spiritual teacher who could guide me along my journey. I was searching for a community of people also interested in self-progress,” Christina explains. Inspired by a reference to Aikido in books by Paulo Coelho and encouraged by her best friend, she joined a beginner’s class series.
CHALLENGES BEFORE AIKIDO
Before joining Aikido, Christina often felt ungrounded and stressed. Her natural response to challenges was to avoid them, both literally and figuratively.
“I would often run away from problems, not wanting to deal with them,” she recalls. This tendency left her feeling disconnected from her sense of stability and safety.
TRANSFORMATION
THROUGH AIKIDO
Through consistent practice, Christina began to experience profound shifts in her ability to handle life’s complexities. Aikido helped her feel more centered and empowered, particularly when setting boundaries and holding her ground.
“My training has allowed me to say no when needed to others, especially in an authority position,” Christina shares. “I’ve been able to maintain my own space and speak my truth while allowing others to do the same. This helped me leave an unhealthy relationship, as well as an unhealthy work environment.”
Her newfound sense of grounding extended into her physical practice as well. By incorporating the principle of “weight underside,” Christina discovered a stability that went beyond the mat.
“The concept of keeping weight underside has helped me move through the world more stably in my body and posture. It’s allowed me to stop feeling weighed down by issues or defying gravity by being too in my head.”
OUTCOMES AND LEARNINGS
Aikido became a cornerstone in Christina’s journey toward greater balance, both emotionally and physically:
- Increased Centeredness: She now feels more grounded in her ability to handle life’s challenges calmly and clearly.
- Empowerment in Setting Boundaries: Christina gained the strength to protect her energy and avoid harmful situations.
- Decreased Stress: Practicing Aikido helped her cultivate a sense of safety and stability, reducing her stress levels.
“I feel more centered in myself and my ability to handle life. Aikido has helped me maintain a decreased level of overall stress.”
AN INVITATION TO BEGIN THE JOURNEY
Christina’s story highlights the power of Aikido to transform not just the body, but the mind and spirit as well. For anyone considering starting their Aikido journey, she offers this advice:
“Just keep showing up, even when it feels tough. The growth happens subtly, and before you know it, you’ll find yourself moving through life with a newfound sense of ease and confidence.”
